A child was born, nurtured, taught, given the freedom to explore and he matured to be a man. A man that advised us on how to care for the marginalized, the sick, the lonely, the disenfranchised, the forgotten. He is our Mighty God that established the world with His words (John 1:1), His love (John 3:16), and His wounds (Isaiah 53:5). He did things on this earth that nobody could do, but asked us to do it with Him (John 14:12).
He came to reverse and transform what was happening to people prior to His coming to the earth. He came to redeem us. He came to regain possession of us in exchange for the payment of His own life. He came to release us from the weight of sin that keeps us bound. Jesus came to draw attention to suffering, injustice, and to provide an escape from the tragedies on earth caused by humanity so that we could live pleasurably and abundantly here (John 10:10) and completely free of all harm, danger, and oppression when He returns again.
Jesus came to center us on His page and to teach us to look out for each other, to get to know someone new in our classes, to forgive those that have hurt us, to (Micah 6:8) walk humbly, to love mercy, and to do justice.
This week on the podcast we are exploring what it means to be Jesus’ hands in feet as we engage civically. Some of you have already reached the ripe age of 18. Are you registered to vote? There is still time to do that. Some of you are not old enough to vote but you can still speak truth to power, you can still share what you believe is the right thing to do for ALL people! I believe that Jesus’ redemption applies to our civic engagement too.
Each of us has been redeemed, called, and set apart to be God’s vessel and to do amazing things with God’s Spirit leading you. How will you engage your neighbor, your family members, God, and even yourself this week? If you have not started a journal for your spiritual life yet, now is the time. Now is the time to hear what God is saying specifically to you. Now is the time to spend more time paying attention to where God is leading you and why Jesus was sent to REDEEM YOU.
Take a listen to Sid & Jaydon’s rendition of MY REDEEMER LIVES. Pay attention to the lyrics. Talk to God about what they mean in general and what they mean specifically to you. Ask God how you should move forward considering the fact that Jesus was born, lived, testified, died, and rose again just for you to be REDEEMED.
